PP Arnold - Soul Survivor

The long-awaited memoir from the American-born soul legend known for ‘60s chart hits, The First Cut is the Deepest, and Angel of the Morning.

For the first time she shares her extraordinary story from joining the Ike & Tina Turner Revue, aged 17, and arriving in London in 1966 to support the Rolling Stones. Mick Jagger persuaded the vivacious teenager to stay on and record as a solo artist, leading to a five-decade career working with everyone from Jagger, Rod Stewart and Eric Clapton to Barry Gibb, Peter Gabriel.

But, her story is far from gilded as she recalls the bigotry and abuse she received on both sides of the Atlantic as a young, black woman, being forced into marriage, aged 15, as well as family tragedy. The legendary musician has survived it all and has continued to reinvent herself through the years – be that as a West End musical actress, a sought-after backing singer or a star in her own right.
